Elie Hirschfeld is a Tony Award voting member of The Broadway League and has produced and co-produced numerous Broadway shows.
After many years of supporting the theatre as an avid member of the audience, Elie Hirschfeld made his first production investment in 1996 by supporting Jackie Mason’s Love Thy Neighbor on Broadway. The show was a huge hit. Since then, Hirschfeld Productions has been involved in many acclaimed plays and musicals, including The Fantasticks, Doubt, and Year with Frog & Toad.
In 2007, Hirschfeld Productions partnered with the Shubert Organization as a co-producer of Passing Strange, which opened at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway in February 2009. This vibrant coming of age musical was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical, among many other accolades. Famed director Spike Lee filmed three performances to create Passing Strange: The Movie, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
Hirschfeld Productions also partnered with the Shubert Organization and influential theatre impresario Gerald Schoenfeld to help bring the 2007 London revival of Peter Schaffer’s famous Equus to Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre in September 2008. Directed by Thea Sharrock, this acclaimed production starred Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe and ran through February 2009.
Elie Hirschfeld Productions helped bring Oleanna to the John Golden Theatre in October 2009. The play, starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles, was written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes.
Hirschfeld Productions invested in Flashdance: The Musical, opened October 14, 2010 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End.
Beyond the New York theatre community, Elie Hirschfeld Productions supports The B-Street Theatre in Sacramento, CA, as well as The Brown University Theater and The Trinity Repertory in Providence, RI.
